About Chris Lema
I've been leading software and product teams for more than 25 years (since 1994).
I had no idea that the kinds of software we were building (in the browser) would change names from ASP (application service provider) to SaaS (Software as a Service), or that they'd take over the world.
But three things have remained true since that time:
- The software world keeps changing. What you did yesterday can help you grow into doing something new today, or can hold you back because you're stuck in an older time paradigm.
- All management is people management. No matter how complex software gets, even when it's partially written by computers, the most important thing to remember is that people are involved in the create of software, and therefore, people leadership is critical.
- I say a little prayer before every launch. You can keep your faith personal and out of a lot of what goes on in building software, but at some point, you'll likely pray that everything works - either in a demo or at launch time.
This blog is where I'm sharing my insights to my new team, as I lead product development for Cherith.io. I also have blogs over at chrislema.com and leaders.blog.
